We've been working with a start up of a different kind recently, a social food project in Holbeck, Leeds.

Holbeck Food Enterprise

Holbeck Food Enterprise (HFE) is being set up to grow and sell locally grown produce, run by the residents of Holbeck for the residents of Holbeck. Holbeck Food Enterprise is the brain child of Lee Griffiths who contacted us after Michael Canning of Leeds City Council recommended he speak to us. Lee's ideas and enthusiam for his startup really struck a cord with us.

kilo75 is based in Holbeck Urban Village which is a great example of urban regeneration. However, Holbeck itself is known to be one of the most economically challenged areas in Europe. While we love our working environment we're concerned about the big challenges facing our close neighbours. For example, the nearest grocery store to the centre of Holbeck is about three miles away. The majority of residents don't have their own transport, which makes a weekly family food shop a mission and a half! It also makes food shopping more expensive over the long term.

Rather than sitting around moaning about the situation Lee decided to do something about it and we relish the opportunity to help.

The project has got some amazing support already, including Hilary Benn, who will be speaking at the first public meeting on 7th March. Our first bit of help has been to produce the invitation. This is going out to all the residents of Holbeck and the wider Leeds area.

Lee is keen to involve as many people as possible to raise the project's profile so if you'd like to find out more then why not come along to the meeting? We'd also appreciate it if you would tell as many people as you can.

If you can't make it along but feel you'd like to get involved please give Matt or Monica a call and we can put you in touch with Lee.
